Mission statement
Bulgarian society of the patients with pulmonary hypertension – BSPPH is a non-profit association established in 2012 with aim of providing its members with accurate and timely information about developments regarding pulmonary hypertension. The reason for establishment of a BSPPH was to help towards the positive reinforcement and enrichment of the work of international PH associations, as much as towards the much-needed coordination of Bulgarian patients with PH.
In 2012 group of supporters established the Bulgarian society of patients with pulmonary hypertension for it was deemed necessary to create an organization that represents patients with the rare disease of PH, protects their legitimate rights and seeks to ensure the betterment of living conditions for them and their families. The association’s mission is to work towards the solution the problems patients are facing with everyday activities.
The holding of events, fairs, conferences, congresses, sports activities and information campaigns advances awareness about PH, bolsters the sentiments of solidarity and communion, and improves the social, psychological and economic conditions of the patients and their families.
The goals of BSPPH are the assertion and protection of the patient’ rights, the improvement of patient’s standards of living, the establishment of customary activities , the active participation in various community events, and the organization of activities that strengthen the spirit of solidarity between patients , families and health professionals.
Natalia Maeva, President of BSPPH
Natalia Maeva hold MA Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Sofia University “St.Kl.Ohridski”, Bulgaria. She received her Ph.D. in the field of Political Science in the same University. Specialized in the field of international relations. She worked as a journalist and later as a media and PR consultant. She is Bulgarian native speaker, fluent in English, Greek and Russian and capable of basic conversation in German and Croatian. In 2012 with group of supporters she established the Bulgarian society of patients with pulmonary hypertension (BSPPH) currently chairwoman. Former Board Member, Vice Treasurer at Pulmonary Hypertension Association Europe 2016-2017. Since 2017 she is member of the Board of directors at National Patients’ Organization – Bulgaria. Natalia Maeva is founding member and Vice President of the Association of patients with respiratory failure and lung transplantation. She underwent double lung transplantation in 2016 in AKH, Vienna, Austria.
Maria Stefanova, Vice President of BSPPH
Degree in Journalism at the Sofia University “St.Kl.Ohridski”. More then 10 years she worked as editor-in-chief and presenter in different Bulgarian radio and TV chanels. PR and Media Consultant for UNDP in Bulgaria. Since 2001 till 2010 she was chairperson of CEM Council for Electronic Media in Bulgaria – the regulatory authority for radio and television. At present Maria serves as entrepreneur, VIA Consulting Ltd., PR and Media Consultant. Also she is chairman of the International Nominating Committee 2016-2018 Zonta International, a worldwide organization of executives in business and the professions empowering women thorough service and advocacy, since 1995 member of Zonta International. Since 2012 she is vice-chair of the Bulgarian Society of Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension).
